SUSTAINABILITY – Royal Nest Hotel

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability Practices Commitment / Implementation:

As a hotel we are committed to the world’s environmental management practices that conserve nature and the environment.

1. Linen policy– in tandem with the world environmental trends as a hotel we change guest linen on the 3rd night of stay however should a guest require linen changed anytime of their stay please contact our housekeeper who will do so at short notice.

2. Refuse management– we separate our refuse to bio degradable and non-degradable by use of black colour for non-degradable and Green colour for biodegradable in all our departmental sections.

3. Energy conservation – as a hotel we have taken a lead in the use of solar for water heating and public area lighting as well as using energy saver bulbs in the entire hotel. We have also incorporated the sensor system for lights in the rooms, corridors and stairs.

4. The hotel has embraced harvesting rainwater for use in the gardens, watering flowers, cleaning floors, and other public areas.

5. Unless it is unavoidable, the hotel does not promote the use of plastic bags, plastic cups or bottles within the premises. The use of signage’s to sensitize both staff and guests is evident in the premises.

6. Staff Awareness – Team members participate in workshops and seminars conducted by the environmental committee, local government organizations, and also by non-governmental environmental organizations.

7. Social & Cultural Development
In support of local culture and development, ROYAL NEST HOTEL promotes and sells local tours and attractions with special recognition of “green tours” at its tour desks. During the busy seasons of the year, ROYAL NEST HOTEL invites local craft vendors to the hotel to display and sell their craft items – appreciated by guests as well as artisans.

8. Giving back to commuity, we support local farmers. We purchase food and ingredients used in kitchen from local farmers and women groups, Uganda coffee / Uganda tea grown by communities from all regions of Uganda (Arabica from highland region of Fort Portal, Mbale, Kabale, Kasese), fish from Lake Victoria.
